Stay with Dawgs, Raiders, side to sides (like Mantas) I like the old 9" Grandmas, and Big Spankies (Cowgirls). Those five lures are all you really need. Make sure you try the 9" Dawg when the mag isn't working, size can really make a diff. speaciall…
Alex, The water that I fish in Northcentral Wisconsin is very similar to the water that you fish. To answer your first question; Yes, I'll throw bulldawgs all the way till ice-up. Dawgs have been my best producer in the last week or two here. I have…
Man that sucks about the fish. I hate power pro it gets bad spots really fast. I swtch to suffix braid it's awesome and lasts really long. But I had your same question about what baits to go with when the water gets below 50
So its that cold time of year... went out on Lake Wissota close to home this last Thurs.... threw bulldawgs all day and had one BIG fish on... my dad got a quick glimpse of it before it screamed out 15-20 feet of my line and BROKE my line that far u…
First, Second, and Third places in the Muskies Inc tourney this last weekend were all on bulldawgs... Fish were hanging deeper already and river channels are a good spot to hit! Fish them dawgs slow and deep and you should see some fish... water was…
Whats up Alex? I do most of my fishing in Indiana and for me and my crew almost every real big fish we've caught has been on suckers. Alot of people think theyre wasting time with them, and that it slows them down from the run and gun style. Dude, if you're not using them it's deffinitelly costing you a few fish, Maybe some HOGS. And we start using them soon as the water hits 60 degrees. Check out my musky link page if you get a chance, I make a sucker rig that I believe is the absolute best available. Maybe you would be interrested. Either way bro, if you have suckers available, use them for sure. Oh yeah, one more thing- We use the biggest suckers we can get, usually the ones that everyone else thinks are just rediculously too big. sometimes 20 inches or larger if we can get em. BIG muskies love em. Good luck this fall and I hope you get a BEAST on a sucker this year.
We went to the raffle last year and the prizes were amazing!! Rods, reels, tackle boxes, nets!! I one a giveaway that was a brand new lakewood with an abu reel.
It was well worth it! I just hope this year is as good as last!! They had table after table of prizes!! They drag it out but its still a nice time to try and land some prizes and have a few drinks!! If I dont see you on the water come up and say hi at the raffle - I would imagine I will be the biggest guy in the room. I am 6'7 and around 300lbs. So Im pretty hard to miss!
Dont look at the forcast!! The weather shows some pretty rough conditions!!!
The pike tournament is a fishing/thirst quenching contest!! We finshed in the money this year - Our best ever finish! My biggest was 37"!
We will be all over during the tournament. I have a big deep v lowe, with a 115 etec. White/Blue boat with White motor. Typically we start everyday eating breakfast at R and R and go from there!
This year I am not going to fish with Tys brother Tim. Tim is going to fish with their mom. I have a buddy coming over MN that I met a few years back - He stays at our resort a few times througout the year. Who do you fish with?
Are you guys going to the rafle on Saturday night at the hotel?
This is only my third year in the tournament. It's a lot of fun. Musky Tale does a northern tourney in the spring that is awsome time! Have you ever fished that? We stay at my families place Chippewa Shores resort on the north end of chief lake. I have been able to become good friends with Ty
Sennett over the years because his brother and I taught together for a few years. I am bringing his brother up again this year. Do you guys fish mainly on the east side or run all over? How did you do last year in the tournament?
I am looking forward to getting up there! I wont be up until super late on Thursday night. Do you guys have a place on the flowage? Or staying some where.
Do you guys only fish the flowage during the tournament?
I grew up fishing rivers. Whether it be for bass, walleye, catfish, bluegill, musky and even carp, I loved to fish rivers.
Here is some stuff I follow personally, but all rivers are different. Hope this helps and good luck. Let me know how you do.
Lures
Crankbaits: I throw smaller stuff most of the time. 6" crankbaits like big games, jakes, and bagleys.
Topwater: I prefer smaller, quieter topwaters that you can reel slow like topper stoppers and topraiders. I do best when the water is clearer.
Bucktails: I don't throw bucktails much due to the amount of rough fish you snag in the river I mainly fish. There is always the chance of snagging a musky too. I have never done it, but I've seen it happen.
Plastics: You can use them all year, but I do best in the winter. Bulldawgs for when you want something with erratic action and Storm Swimshads or Kalins Grubs for when you want to drag the bottom or straight retrieve.
Gliders: Can't forget gliders. Phantoms, hellhounds, mantas... they all work very well all year long.
Colors
Use what you have confidence in. I think they focus more on presentation than color on rivers, mainly because the water clarity is usually pretty poor.
Location
The fish can be anywhere at any time, but here is where I like to start...
Spring: Dams or close by
Summer: Fish can be anywhere
Fall: Near deeper holes
Winter: Near deeper holes
ALWAYS fish current breaks and deeper water all year long.
Tributaries can be great too.
Timing
During the summer I do best in the middle of the day.
During winter I do best in the early morning and evening.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks, Alex. Comments like that help motivate me to keep writing. Fishing has been so-so. Bout to move out of IL in a few weeks and off to Ontario (Ottawa) for the next two years... That definitely won't suck! LOL
