I fish. Therefore, I am.

LOVE THE RIG!!!! We have virtually the exact same boat: 2003 Crestliner Fish Hawk 1850DC, 135 Opti, 9.9 Kicker, MK Powerdrive, etc. It's fishability is outstanding!

I'd love to catch any size muskie any day, and personally consider a 48 or 49" a BIG fish, but there's something special about those 50"s!!

What study was that? Could you provide a reference? If it was the set of angler observations that appeared in Musky Hunter a few years ago by Steve Rusteberg he wasn't radio tracking muskies, just recapturing fish with Floy tags.

So, you say I have nice teeth.

How to catch nurse and reef sharks:
1) Get some barracuda heads and shove them in a mesh bag.
2) Tie the bag to a cleat on the boat and drop over the side of the boat.
3) Dump some dirty barracuda-juiced water into the ocean.
4) Take a hunk of barracuda, thread onto large circle hook so point pushes through skin which holds hunk onto hook.
5) Pitch cast bait out. Let current take it out a bit.
6) Stand at front of boat and scout for incoming sharks.
7) Let fish take bait and swim away.
8) Slowly… Continue

Little Fish... BIG Spalsh

While talking on the phone last night sitting by our Center's "conch wall" I could see and hear big splashes near our dock. After getting off the phone I by-passed hitting the bars/karaoke and grabbed my fishing gear. I took out a bag of frozen conch scraps, my box of hooks, Hook-Pick, and my hand-line spool and wandered down to our dock. Not 10 minutes later the water erupts around the dock and big, dark shadows scatter through the shallows. Realizing I might need some heavier equipment, my gir… Continue

Commercial vs. Recreational Fishermen: Are we that different?

Being down here in the Caribbean has been interesting and enlightening on several levels. One that stands out is my practice of catch-and-release is so foreign to most of the fishermen down here that I am DEFINITELY in the minority. I told a guy yesterday that stateside I release all my fish and can't remember the last time I filleted a fish. He just sort of looked at me and then laughed. He said that drinking and women are "sport" for him, not fishing. Had a good laugh over that.

So here I am:… Continue

Note To Self...

1) Don't wade out 400 yards to a barrier reef with a large storm brewing nearby, and think you can easily walk back to shore... because you just can't.
2) Get the $%^& out of the water if there's lightening nearby!
3) Dive sheds make great cover from 50+mph wind, rain, and flying debris.
4) Buy a spare snorkel/dive mask for driving the boat in rain.
5) No fish is worth your life...

Wishin I was fishin

Here I am studying in the Caribbean surrounded by turquoise blue waters. My problem isn't ice; it's the wind. This damn wind won't stop blowing. Makes wading the nearest and ONLY accessible sand flat pretty difficult. It's doable for sure, but trying to sight fish barracuda in 1-2' waves is pretty difficult. Their light silver backs blend in so well with the mixed sand/seagrass. I could blind cast the area but there's nothing cooler than spotting a 4' missile, casting beyond it, burning your bai… Continue

Very cool and unexpected i guess. Not a little blurb. I just noticed your other comment about Ottawa. Its about 4hrs east of me and the Kawarthas... maybe a little longer. I have been wanting to get out east for muskie but just have never had the opertunity. Had pretty good luck here at home and a little north on the French to try St.L or Rideau.

Thanks for the drop on the sturgeon, unexpected catch while fishing muskie with a 10" Suick that's for sure. Needless to say, my 50Lbs quest is still on.... though we had it for sure at first though.

That sucks Sean! Sorry to hear that you didnt get that fish in the boat. You sure that you forgot to close the snap, and it didnt open on its own? I have never had a problem but if that happened I want to get on it right away. Theyre stay lok snaps, which I believe to be the best by far. Hope It wasnt the rig. Please get back to me on that. Otherwise I hope you like the setup. I think the more you use it the more youre gonna like it. Hope you get some PIGS on it soon. I really wanted to put out a rig with nothing but top notch components, and feedback on how people like it is very important to me. I make solid wire leaders too. I feel like they blow the others out there away. I think you might like them as well. Let me know if you would be interested and Ill send you a few. Thank you for trying my product in your study. Be patient with the rig and I think you'll see why its been so effective for us. I look foreward to hearing how the rest of the season goes for you bro. Good luck with everything.

Glad you got the rig Sean. Hope you love it as much as we do. We've caught some really good fish on it and hookup percentages have been awesome! A really safe rig on the fish too. Let me know how it produces for you. We can get more to you if you want. Just want to say that I think the work you're doing with these fish is amazing and will really help the musky fishery across the midwest and Canada. I admire your passion for the fish. Good luck with everything and I look foreward to following the project.

I just happen to be checking the 'putah at my folkses place in Hayward- and I see you left me a comment three minutes ago! Glad you got it- normally it comes packaged better- and also I *may* have forgot to throw in a bait needle- it's easy to make if you have nay straight wire around though- so hopefully it's no biggy. Hope you can get some suckers and boat one or two on it! Good luck and keep up the fine work! Let me know if you have any questions and I'll be following Noble Beast with interest. Have fun, later bro!

Thanks for the message Sean. I always have great luck on my birthday...and this year I finally got the one I was looking for. It only took 138 muskies to get there but it was worth the wait. I got the 51.5 and my buddy got a 49.5 about 30 minutes later so it was a pretty sick evening. Ive been following your blog...being able to interact with muskies on a level other than fishing must be really interesting and exciting. Keep up the good work buddy.
