The curse of the skunk is finally over. Got three fish on Saturday, with my partner getting 4. Good day on the water, and saw a muskie kill a grebe. Pretty amazing stuff. There were two grebes that swam around a point out on the water and when we got around the point we saw a blowup on the water. After which, one of the birds was trying to keep it's head out of the water, while the rest of its body wasn't moving. I think it had it's neck broken, and had a lot of feathers missing on the sides of…

Once again it's time to head north for 2 wonderful weeks. Camping in Iron Co. Michigan on one of my favorite muskie lakes. Hopefully I'll be able to have repeat success on Chicagon while catching fish on lake like Emily and Stanley. Emily has Tigers so maybe I'll luck out and catch one of those too. We'll be making a trip to Minocqua to see the sights and visit Rollie and Helen's to load up on some new lures. Unfortunately no fishing in Wisconsin, maybe someday.....

Wow! What a hard bite this year. I am so fortunate to have caught two over 50 so far. They are out there but seem really lazy.
I hope this warm weather wakes them up.
Happy hunting everyone

As a long-time musky guide, I’ve shared my boat with anglers of all proficiency levels. I’ve fished with musky hunters who have caught literally hundreds of muskies, including some huge fish. I’ve also fished with anglers who are complete novices who have never even fished for muskies.
At the University of Esox musky schools, anglers introduce themselves and divulge the number and size of muskies they’ve caught. While many of the students have some large fish and…

This past weekend (June 6th & 7th), my fishing partner, Luke, and I fished the WMT Three Lakes Chain "Badgerland Open". The weather for the weekend was ridiculous, with temperatures in the mid-40's, strong NE winds, and mist on Sunday. We moved a couple of fish on Saturday, but they were way behind the baits and wanted nothing to do with any throwbacks. On Sunday, we were fishing the same areas but switched tactics a bit and it paid off. Luke caught a 35.5" around 8:00 a.m. After registering…

Returned home last week from another great Minnesota Opener! Altho I've been transplanted elsewhere I'm still a diehard Minnesota girl. You can take the girl out of MN but you can't take MN out of the girl! Anyway, no one in my family sleeps the evening before the opener even tho we crawl into bed and try to get some shut eye. I spend those few hours before midnight running my gear through my head, reviewing my new tackle, thinking about the knots I've tied, and wonderin just how dang cold its g…

Okay, I'm on a dry spell again this spring. Happened last year, and now this year it is worse, with no fish in the boat yet. Had several close calls and a few up to the boat, but the luck hasn't held. Maybe I was spoiled in earlier years, but I don't remember things being this slow. I'll stick with it, I know I'll have my day here soon. Or else.

May 10-15 /09 Nothing so far. Water is high and dirty (all the rain) seen one hammer handle musky caught by a few noobs, they did not even want to touch it. Trolling deep weed lines and jigging shallow bays, so far quiet. Looking for walleyes but the the musky are usually with them.

2009 IMTT Spring Classic
The fact that so many considerations come into play when seeking to catch the elusive muskie, just adds to the challenge that is irresistible to those that seek them. Springtime weather in Illinois adds to that challenge. A challenge indeed, but for this group of dedicated group of fishermen, the thrill of the catch makes it all worthwhile. Last weekend wind, rain, fluctuating water temperatures and water levels, made the muskie hunters on Lake Shelbyville really have t…
